The Truth about Emma Chamberlain and the Cartier Choker Controversy by Amar Singh
Everyone, and their mum, has had an opinion regarding the recent controversy surrounding 20-year-old Youtube star Emma Chamberlain’s Met Gala necklace choice. 99% of them are repeating the same misinformation they’ve taken from the first few Google search results, which needs to be noted, has absolute zero reference and seems to be entirely produced from assumption and imagination. The biggest fabrication made so far is that the Cartier choker Emma wore is stolen. Furthermore, most social media posts and news media outlets continuously butcher their coverage by confusing the Patiala Necklace (or De Beers necklace) with the choker.
If you can’t tell, I’m slightly annoyed by the speed at which this misinformation proliferated but more so because my own Instagram account (@RamblingsofaSikh) was mass reported and disabled simply because I was challenging the false narrative. My Instagram is similar to many others that catalog and share history from the South Asian community but I’d like to think I focus a little bit more, although not exclusively, on the Sikh community, particularly within the UK. Often this involves sharing snippets of history, challenging false narratives and the monthly podcast.
Now, strap yourself in as we get to the bottom of the Emma Chamberlain controversy and paint a far more accurate story of what actually happened.
